Wednesday Morning Prayer Call
The Wednesday Morning Prayer Call is a time for participants of faith to gather in community by phone and give praise, thanks, honor, and love to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We share an opening and closing prayer as well as Bible passages or a reading from the Upper Room©, and we lift up prayers for healing, for comfort, and for joy. You can join the 30-minute prayer call on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m., by dialing 1-605-313-4822 and entering passcode 703366#.
Mission Ministry
There are No Strangers, Only Neighbors
Mindful of the commands of God through His son Jesus, the Mission Ministry works to make the love of Christ tangible in the lives of our neighbors. With God’s help, we follow the example and exhortations of Jesus to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the sick, comfort the imprisoned, and welcome the lonely or outcast.
At PPC, our Mission Ministry includes:
- work to maintain an emergency food pantry
- participation in local in clothing drives
- the purchase and deliver groceries to sick or disabled members of the Peekskill community
- preparation and serving of holiday meals for those who are lonely or in need
- mission trips for disaster relief efforts and. once, to rebuild a homeless shelter
- sponsorship of disaster relief around the world
- support for local and national homeless ministries
- prison outreach
What To Do and How To Do It
Our Christian Education ministry exists to glorify God and to teach students to love Him. Whether our scholars are children or adults, we teach them God’s Word, and we try to empower them to apply Christian values in their daily lives and communities.
In Confirmation Class, 13- or 14-year-old students are more vigorously instructed in how to understand the truth in the Bible and to share their faith confidently with others. We strive to help students deepen their sense of understanding and purpose, to love their neighbors, and to live a life of service to God.
Adult Bible Study is an integral part of our church’s Christian Education program. Studies can be led by either congregants or preachers. Examples include church-wide small groups that recently shared an examination of The Pilgrim’s Compass©. The Book of Acts, Easter in Scripture©, and Understanding Islam© were all part of a recent extended program on comparative religions. Members of a local mosque led that discussion. Topics can range widely, always with an aim of increasing love and understanding of God and our neighbors.
Community Engagement Ministry
On Earth as It Is in Heaven
Our ministry on community and social engagement exists to make tangible and positive impacts in our corner of God’s world. We focus on the Church’s mission of spiritual engagement by building up Church participation in our community. We strive to be a presence and to share with our neighbors in local celebrations and events, to provide volunteers where needed, and to serve as host for forums that involve topics important to our community. We lift up and encourage those doing God’s work in Peekskill and the Hudson Valley.
Green for God
Caring for Creation
The Psalmist tells us, The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. We are called to be guardians of God’s creation, inspired to take action to preserve and honor God and all that He has made and entrusted to us. In this ministry we recognize our responsibility to be caretakers of God’s creation, working to motivate our members and our community, with reverence, and respect, to care for the earth.
